Cleansing on Top of Your Healthy Lifestyle

Do you ever get that feeling like every part of your life is affected when you get out of routine with just a single part? I do, whether it is my job, relationships, or my diet.  You can’t always control those first two parts of life, but you can control what you put in your body.

 

In a time when it is not only easier, but also cheaper to eat processed snacks, everyone is doomed to fall off the healthy eating wagon every once in a while.  I try to avoid these foods, as well as red meat, saturated fats, and sweets.  Three weeks ago I said “buh-bye” to dessert, and I’ll be honest with you, I break that “rule” all of the time.  The most recent incident was yesterday coming home from work to find some homemade cookie dough in my fridge.

That was a small instance of falling off the wagon. There are big instances too. For instance, the holidays, when you lose count of how many s’mores you ate at a bonfire, and just the typical “let it all loose” weekend of indulgence. These are reasons why I love to cleanse.

 

There are so many reasons to cleanse, but jumpstarting or getting back to healthy life is the driving force for me. Cleansing is a way for me to forgive myself for the bumps in the healthy lifestyle road. When I feel like I am off track, I can set three days aside to drink only live, healthy, delicious juices.  And guess what? When I do this, I feel amazing.  I feel revived. I feel accomplished. And best of all, I feel as though my entire life is back on track. I go from feeling sluggish to feeling full of life and invincible.

Not to mention, I look better. The bloat I feel from eating “bad” (processed) foods is gone, so my clothes fit, as they should. My skin is actually better (yes, this is not a myth, cleansing really improves your complexion). The domino effect is that I stand taller and have better posture because I feel more confident in my appearance, and am more aware of my body from the three days of focusing on my body from my cleanse. On a completely other, but just as important note, not chewing for three days revamps your appreciation for eating and the food you eat on a daily basis.  You wont need to go out to a lavish meal to get that “oh my god this is amazing” feeling from what you eat, literally anything that involves chewing will do that for a while after a cleanse. I like to think of it as “cleansing my palette.”

 

Don’t get me wrong, my life doesn’t instantly change overnight after a cleanse. But it’s a step in the right direction of the healthy lifestyle that I choose to live. After a cleanse, my body has detoxified from the additives in processed foods. Imagine pressing a reset button for your poor eating habits. My body naturally craves for nutrient dense foods afterwards. My energy is increased, and as a result, I want to get back to the gym and pick up where I left off.

People like us who lead healthy lifestyles may be skeptical of juicing; “I already eat raw foods on a regular basis, why should I have only that for 1, 3, 5, 10 days?” You should because it allows you to keep up that healthy lifestyle and to continue with it when work is stressful, you’re moving to a new apartment, or recovering from an injury.  When life makes living healthy difficult, and puts focus somewhere else other than proper nourishment, you can snap it right back with cleansing.
