3 Ways To Stop Being So Hard On Yourself

 

Did you know that the most popular Instagram accounts are Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, and Ariana Grande? They all have over 50 million followers. It’s the first time in history that you get direct access to celebrities and models in real time. Not to mention Snapchat, Facebook, and other social media platforms out there. You get to catch a glimpse of their fabulous life and you wonder how their make-up and hair stay perfect all the time. Then you start to compare yourself to these modern day gods. Can you see how dangerous it is to be comparing yourself to celebrities and people that you see on social media? You compare your life to the highlight reels of what people post up on social media. If you’re like me and everyone else who has been guilty of this, you’d know that this problem caused a lot of negative feelings and the  feeling of “I’m not good enough”. Today, I’m going to show you 3 ways to stop being so hard on yourself. Stop it! Because you are good enough.

  1. Understanding the concept of 10% result and 90% intention

The first step to stop being so hard on yourself is to understand that you only get to see 10% of what people decide to share with the world and you don’t get to see 90% of what goes on behind the scene. You see a picture of someone rocking amazing abs and that’s the result of their hard work. But you don’t see everything else that goes into it…they eat chicken and broccoli every day, they go to sleep at a certain time, they’re always at the gym, they bring their own meals when they go out with their friends, or the unhappiness that they experience because they’ve been deprived of the things that they enjoy doing most. If you get to see what it takes to achieve that perfect body, would you trade all the things you enjoy most to get it? I personally wouldn’t. I like to work out but not all the time, I like to eat healthy but I don’t have time to sit around and count my calories, and I certainly will not give up the experience of trying new restaurants with my friends. Understanding this concept will help you break free of the unproductive habit of comparing your body to others. Know that your intention is to enjoy life and not to give up everything you love to achieve rock hard abs. And that’s okay. You’re good enough!

  1. Keep Track of Your Progress

The second step to stop being so hard on yourself is to keep track of your progress. You can write in a journal, date your daily entry, write down 3 things that you want to accomplish (a goal), and then write 3 things that you’ve already accomplished or things you’re proud of. If you have a fitness goal, you can take a picture of yourself in your underwear (so you can see your body transformation), email the pictures to yourself, put the topic as “Body Transformation – Date”, and keep these pictures store away in a folder. Every month, go back to your journal and or email folder and observe your progress. Remember that every great accomplishment starts with the decision to try. It’s important to acknowledge yourself for making the decision to try and never giving up on your goals. Do you beat yourself up for feeling that you’re not doing enough? If you ever start feeling bad about where you are today, take a deep breath, and think about where you were a year or two years ago. Even 10 years ago! It’s great to work on bettering yourself but know that you’re good enough and that’s all that matters.

  1. Make the decision to be happy, right now!

The 3rd step is most simple yet important. Make the decision to be happy right now and not later. Stay away from the mentality that when you lose 10 lbs you’d be happy, when you buy a new car you’d be happy, or when you pay off your house you’d be happy. If you wait that long, you might miss out on all the fun. If you choose happiness, you’d notice that you have more energy to do things, and when you do things… you’ll get result. Losing weight isn’t hard. There are millions different ways to do it. But when you decide to be happy, it doesn’t matter how you do it, the weight will start to fall off naturally. Even if you don’t get the result that you want, it doesn’t matter because at least you’re happy. So make the decision to be happy today!

Every day we are constantly bombarded by the media to tell us that we’re not good enough. We need to buy this so we can feel better, we need to buy that so we can look better, and we need to constantly buy happiness. Take a moment and ask yourself, how do I feel and what is it that I want? Is this something that you really want or is it someone’s idea? Whenever you start questioning yourself and feeling like you’re not good enough, remember the concept of 10% result and 90% intention. You only get to see a picture and not the behind the scene. Keeping track of your progress will remind you of how far you’ve come, take some time to acknowledge all your accomplishments. And don’t forget the most simple yet important step. Make the decision to be happy, right now.
